NAIDOC WEEK 22 – GET UP! STAND UP! SHOW UP!
NAIDOC Week celebrates and recognises the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It’s an opportunity for all Australians to come together, learn about First Nations cultures and histories, and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
To accomplish systemic change, we all must Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! – this NAIDOC Week 2022 theme emphasises that we will only achieve institutional, structural, collaborative, and cooperative reforms by continuously working together.
We need to move beyond acknowledgement so that the relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non‑Indigenous Australians is solidified in the community. The foundation of the relationship must be based on justice, equity, and the proper recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights.
Getting Up, Standing Up, and Showing Up can take many forms. If you’re looking for ways to contribute, visit www.naidoc.org.au to get inspired.
