Mental Health Services
All Australians deserve to live a healthy life. Part of a healthy life is having positively high levels of mental health. Mental health services, in all sizes, facilities and forms, play an essential role in supporting members of our community to sustain or improve their mental health.
High levels of mental health are associated with increased learning, creativity and productivity, more pro-social behaviour and positive social relationships, and with improved physical health and life expectancy. In contrast, mental health conditions can cause distress, impact on day-to-day functioning and relationships, and are associated with poor physical health and premature death from suicide. – Beyond Blue
QIP provides a variety of accreditation options for mental health services, including the National Standards for Mental Health Services (NSMHS), the National Safety and Quality Digital Mental Health (NSQDMH) Standards, and the National Safety and Quality Mental Health Standards for Community Managed Organisations (NSQMHCMO Standards).
Achieving QIP accreditation for any of these Standards helps mental health services drive continuous improvement while demonstrating their commitment to high-quality service delivery, robust policies, compliance with standards, clear communication, informed consent, and ensuring consumer safety and privacy.
Find the Right Accreditation Standard
for Your Mental Health Service
The NSMHS Standards apply to a wide range of mental health services across Australia, including bed-based, community, clinical, public, private hospital, non-government, private office-based, and primary care or general practice services.
The NSQDMH Standards are voluntary and apply to organisations or individuals offering digital mental health services, including those providing information, counselling, treatment, or peer-to-peer support through technology.
The NSQMHCMO Standards are designed for not-for-profit, non-government organisations providing mental health services such as psychosocial rehabilitation, helpline and counselling services, accommodation support, and peer support, with potential suitability for some for-profit providers.
