Correctional Centre Health Services
The delivery of high-quality primary healthcare is challenging in correctional facilities compared to other healthcare services such as general practices or specialised health services. Recognising that people incarcerated in Australian prisons or detained in custody often face complex problems with their health and wellbeing,
The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has developed the RACGP Standards for health services in Australian prisons (the RACGP Standards for prisons) The RACGP Standards for prisons are also designed to support general practitioners working in these healthcare environments to achieve better health outcomes for people incarcerated in Australian prisons or detained in custody. QIP is one of few providers approved by the RACGP to deliver accreditation against the RACGP Standards for prisons.
In addition to the RACGP Standards for prisons, dependent on health service offerings, correctional centre health services can also undertake accreditation against the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards, governed by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (the Commission). QIP is approved by the Commission to deliver accreditation against the NSQHS Standards to a variety of health services across Australia, including correction centre health services.
QIP understands the depth of complexity faced by correctional centre health services, and is experienced in guiding these services through the accreditation process. Our accreditation process is complimented by personalised support, a range of education offerings and practical resources, innovative user-friendly software solutions, and an experienced and independent assessment team.
QIP is committed to adhering to each correctional centre health services’ required security, privacy and legal obligations to ensure the accreditation process meets all state and/or territory requirements while providing dedicated and personalised support.
